I stumbled onto these images yesterday and found them to be a sheer visual delight! Apparently this is not a new idea, but it was new to me. I’ll definitely be copying this brilliant mason jar makeover project!
Click the links below each photo for further tips and inspiration. I”ll soon be making a trip to the local hardware store to see what lovely possibilities they have in the spray paint aisle!
Mason Jar Lanterns by Alyssa Ettinger
These would be great for so many different occasions and settings. Have fun!
Very nice! Now I want to make some Mason jar lanterns myself. I wonder how they might look in different colour combinations…
I’ve seen some different combinations now that I’m aware of their existence. I guess I was living in a cave! 🙂
Just beautiful! Very inspiring…I am thinking they would make awesome teacher gifts, too.
I love the spray painted jars. I can’t wait to do this. Thanks for sharing!
Mmmm, I have spray paint in the garage…and some old glass jars too! Thanks for posting.
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!!
You’re very welcome, and Freshly Pressed?? I had no idea! Thanks for letting me know! 🙂
I actually hang on to all my emptied spaghetti jars, clean them out, fill them up with multicolored beans, and put a tealight in them. The look super cute!
I love that idea! I save all my spaghetti mason jars too, so I have quite a collection!
Ooh, interesting! I’ve always liked Mason jars for various reasons… Thanks for sharing!
I love the spray painted jars and also the lanterns. I wonder (instead of paying $55 each), you could use copper wire to create a handle on the jars for hanging. Gotta give it a try. Thanks for sharing. You Matter! Smiles, Nancy
You could definitely do a much cheaper yet lovely job of a diy hanging jar!
These are great! I have a bunch of Mason jars and have been using them to store coins. It’s time to roll up the coins and free up those jars!

Can’t wait to do it too!
Gorgeous! i have sooo many mason jars laying around. there’s at least a dozen crafty things i want to do with them! 🙂
what a cute idea!
Love your site! I didn’t even realize I needed some inspiration (knew I needed something, though!). When I recover from the long weekend (a couple of nice, peaceful days at work should do ) I’ll peruse the archives and have some fun.
Thank you! Have fun! 🙂
Very niice.
Great idea. How did you get the holes though in the glass without breaking it?
I haven’t actually done these projects yet, the links under each photo is what will lead you to the original posts. A lot of these jars already have holes, or the wire can be wrapped around under the lip of the top edge.
It’s unclear – did you paint them yourself? If so, how?
Links to each project can be found under the photos, I was just post other brilliant crafters ideas as inspiration. 🙂

I love these jars just gave me a great idea!
I’m thinking fuschia spray paint, love that colour!
This is cool. I like using Mason Jars for drinks while outdoors because the lid keeps the bugs away. Probably wouldn’t want to paint those though…
Thanks!
Ha, me too! Just pop the lid on! 🙂
So beautiful mason jar! you are a nice woman wth iningenuity.
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
awesome post!
very nice 🙂

Great idea!
oh how gorgeous and friendly, really summery
What a wonderful idea! I am a big crafter and this is really cute I will give it a try. I’m fairly new to wordpress and am browsing other blogs while promoting my own. If you have a chance I’d love to have you stop by mine. http://annlivingston.wordpress.com/
Great idea, thinking red white and blue for 4th of July….
The paint sticks to the glass? Or do you need to prep somehow?
Some do use a spay primer, others don’t. You have to go into it knowing that you may have to touch them up down the road, but hopefully not too much if they’re just sitting and looking pretty. 😉
What a lovely idea! A new life for my old Mason jars..
Thanks for sharing–I’m sending this along to my sister for a wedding idea!
Cheers!

Lovely! I have so many old/lidless mason jars, I just love finding new purposes for them!

I’m not crafty at all but I can’t wait to try this. It looks so simple and fun. I especially love the candle idea. I would love to put pens or paintbrushes in them as well. With summer coming up, this is a must DIY craft! Thank you Heidi for this awesome idea.
What a great idea! I was about to “recycle” my jars out of my house but now, I’m rethinking what I could do for a nice kitchen display or outside in the yard. Thanks
Lovely idea! ~*

I like the way something that could be thrown is turned into useful interior elegance.
Wow. Would love to do them in pastel colors… or why just stop at mason jars? What about old jam jars or even glass bottles? 🙂
New idea to me too…must be in a neighboring cave. I will re-blog this on my site. A fun and simple DIY. Thanks!

This would work on recycled pasta sauce jars too. I love it. Thanks for posting!
What a cute idea! My husband and I just recently got a couple of mason jar wineglasses as a gift from his brother. I bet there’s a way I could do that as a DIY project too!

I just love the painted mason jars, its a lovely idea and one that you could apply to many other fun shaped jars. I also congratulate you on having your blog selected to feature on freshly pressed. well done!
How perfect for me! I collect jars and right now I don’t know what to do with them. I’m a hoarder or sorts and I’d hate to just throw them out! Looking forward to making lanterns considering I’ve been having a candle obsession as well. Thanks for sharing!
Jar lanterns. Smart
These are cute. You should try wrapping string around the outside before you spray paint them. When you take the string off after the paint dries there is a really cool design
Adoreable. Thanks for sharing! So cute for a country wedding.

Y’all know how much I love mason jars, and these projects are adorable.
As a little girl in Bible School in the Midwest we put water in a bucket, then put dobbles of different colored oil paint in the water that would stay on top because oil and water don’t mix.We then swirled the jars into the water until the whole jar was filled with a unique solid rainbow of colors.
I saw this post on Friday and happened to find an old Ball jar yesterday. I bought it with this project in mind. Thanks for the idea!
I painted 3 jars today…2 yellow and 1 white. Wanting to put daisies and maybe lilacs in them.
Really love the colours! They’re so cute 🙂
Oh Joy of Joys, you’ve been “nominated” for the Versatile Blogger Award. This is, so far as I know, a completely bogus award given with the requirement that you (1) thank the person who gave it to you, (2) post links to 15 blogs you have “nominated” to receive this award, (3) notify those 15 bloggers of their “nomination,” (4) post seven random things about yourself, and (5) post the Versatile Blogger Award on your site.
Seriously, though, I like your blog. Check out the post on my site for some other great blogs to look at (if you’re into that sort of thing).
These are just lovely!
I’ve been itching to painting mason jars. These look really nice! I think I am going to have to give i a try.
Wonderful DIY! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
